You have approximately 936 weeks from the day a child is born until he or she graduates from high school, and the weeks move quickly. It is important to be intentional about your child’s faith development, At OCM we want to partner with you to help build a life changing spiritual foundation for your child. Parents, you can do this by consistently bringing your child to church and continuing the faith discussion at home (don’t worry we will give you the tools you need).
Because when you see how much TIME you have left, you tend to do MORE with the TIME you have now.
Children's Ministry: Kindergarten - 5th Grade
Before kids head off to middle school, we want to make sure three things stick. We want kids to see how God’s Word fits in to their lives, to learn how to talk to him, and to build friendships that will last. That’s why it’s important to make sure your child connects with the same friends and same leader at the same hour—EVERY SUNDAY. We focus on 3 big ideas:
Sundays for K-5
Our Sunday school is a small group/large group experience that has a monthly theme that focuses on a specific life app with weekly Bible stories. Children will learn with a variety of styles through games, media, activities, and most importantly through a relationship with a caring connected leader. We have two opportunities for Sunday School:
Children are encouraged to attend one hour of Sunday school and one worship service with their family. We believe children attending worship with their family is an important part of their faith development. We provide weekly worship packs to help them connect to the service and we gladly welcome the sounds of their presence.
Download the “Parent Cue” app on your phone for your own legacy countdown, for weekly follow-up discussion, and parenting hints tailored to your child’s age.
Children's Music for K-5
Notes Of Grace, children’s choir for K-5, Sunday Mornings at 10:30 to 11:00 am in The Fellowship Hall
ReSound, children’s handchimes for 2nd-5th, Sunday Evenings at 5:30 to 6:15pm in Room 202
Route 45 for 4th-5th
Route 45 is for all 4th and 5th graders and their friends. This group meets on Sunday evenings from 4pm to 5:30pm in The Theater. The “tween” years are a crucial time of cognitive, social, and emotional development for kids. In order to reach tweens, we need to know tweens. This group is designed to help tweens grow deeper in their faith and to prepare them for middle school. We model much of what we do during this time after youth ministry. Please check our Children’s Ministry OCM Facebook page, the weekly church bulletin, the monthly newsletter, or the office (423-238-9216) for a more detailed schedule.
Wednesdays for K-5
Wednesday nights start at 6:30pm through 7:30pm and run throughout the school year. In August of 2019, we will begin Bible Story Basics which will help children go a little deeper into the Bible, were we will explore 149 key Bible stories. Children will learn through games, science, art, worship, and prayer.
